Oak Hills Church is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a family in San Antonio! You can VOLUNTEER, GIVE, and PRAY!
Did you know that one of our city’s greatest needs is in the area of affordable housing? An estimated 153,000 families in San Antonio have an unmet housing need, including 71,000 children living in overcrowded housing. Housing costs in San Antonio are at an all-time high, making it difficult for families to make ends meet.
Jesus calls us to love and serve our neighbors in need, saying in Matthew 25 that “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
At Oak Hills Church, we’ve decided to do something about it. We are partnering with Habitat for Humanity to help provide long-term housing solutions to families in need. and we’re asking you to take part.
Families are thrilled about being part of Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio’s home buying program and for the opportunity to partner with Habitat to build and purchase their 3 bedroom dream home. They are looking forward to the security and stability that will come with their new 0% interest affordable mortgage of around $600 a month including taxes and insurance.
You Can Help
You can help in three different ways:
1. Volunteer to build
2. Give towards this and future homes
3. Pray for the project and the family
Oak Hills volunteers are needed over six consecutive Fridays and Saturdays: January 31/February 1 through March 6/7, and on three Saturdays: March 14, March 21, April 4 (pick one or multiple weekends to volunteer, you do not have to commit to every weekend). Each service day, approximately 30 construction volunteers will work under the direction of Habitat’s building coordinator to build this home. Anyone age 14 and above is eligible to work on the construction site, and you don’t need any special skills, just a willingness to serve. In addition, people of all ages are needed to prepare and serve lunch on site. This is a great way for families, neighbors and small groups to serve together. Click HERE to sign up!
You can also respond by giving to cover the cost of this and future homes that Oak Hills Church will sponsor. Each new home costs $57,000. 100% of your gifts will go towards construction costs. Through our "Square Foot Campaign," you and your family can sponsor a square foot or more of our next house. One square foot costs $57. With 1,000 sponsorships, we will complete a new home! Click HERE to give! (Select your campus, enter your dollar amount, select one time gift, select fund: Habitat for Humanity)
We invite you to pray for the project. Click Here to download and print the weekly prayer guide to join us in covering the project in prayer. You can also pray for the specific family who will receive their new home. They are looking forward to starting on their house and learning how to take care of it inside and out through all of the Home Owner Readiness Classes.
Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio is an ecumenical Christian non-profit organization working in partnership with God’s people in need to build modest, decent and affordable homes without interest or profit, thereby witnessing God’s love in action. Habitat for Humanity does a great job of linking qualified, low-income families with new homes. Their rigorous application process includes training on home maintenance, budgeting, life skills and other issues - ensures that families are prepared to take on the responsibility of home ownership. Habitat homeowners contribute at least 300 hours of “sweat equity” towards their home and they also pay an affordable monthly mortgage payment (at zero percent interest), which covers insurance, taxes and helps fund future Habitat homes.

2019 Family Updates
We built for two families in 2019, Saw Tun and King Leverett! Thank you giving of your time and talents!
Above: King Leverett (Dad), Ta Nyi (12) & Breyden (6).
The Leverett family moved into their new home before Thanksgiving 2019! They never thought they could ever have their own home and their own yard in a great neighborhood. “I am a single father raising 2 boys," says King. "I work very hard to give them a better life. I am very proud that I will finally be able to provide them a safe home. Thank you Habitat!
The Saw Tun family received their new home in April of 2019. They threw a big party thanking all the volunteers and celebrating their new home.
Fall 2018 Family Update
In December, 2018, Fabian and Chantal Rameriz Avella and their two kids Bernarda (6) and Isaias (4) moved into their new Habitat Home, just in time for Christmas. They are very excited to finally have a permanent, safe and affordable home for their family and have enjoyed meeting their new neighbors.
