We asked Charlie a few questions:

What do you love most about the city/community where you live and serve? The community I live in has a great generational mix where the culture is to hang out together. It’s not uncommon for us to be eating together over a BBQ a few times a week. Yard games are a big deal where there’s competition and bragging rights on the line. In this neighborhood, it’s really hard for someone to be unknown. We take care of each other, watch out for each other and are involved in each other’s lives through the elementary school, local sports, and specific hobbies.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve seen while serving there? Watching people who were comfortable being private and secluded, go to being social and craving relationship. The relationships in the neighborhood are authentic and loving. We love how this neighborhood has a great mix of those that know Jesus and those that don’t. Faith doesn’t divide the neighborhood like it used to, people talk and ask questions while still being close and not letting things come between them.

What do you love about God? I love that God doesn’t change. He calls us to a better life through the example of the Gospel where God is continually making all things new. God is a missional God where we’ve seen the Gospel come to life by watching people die to themselves for the benefit of others. It’s through the love of the Gospel that we’ve seen people change while we join God in his mission.

What is one thing about you that might surprise people? I enjoy classical music and poetry, and I get a huge thrill of scaring the living daylights out of people.

Tell us about your family. I have the most beautiful wife, Kerin,  and supporter that a husband could ever ask for. We have 2 amazing kids: Austin and Mackenzie. Our house is always filled with laughter, fun and anything competitive. I have to pinch myself every day that God has provided a family that is so close and loving. I can easily say that I’m the luckiest man on earth.
