Local Outreach

At Oak Hills Church, we believe all life is sacred and made in the image of God. Our vision is to courageously engage culture with the hope of Jesus where we live, work, learn, and play.  The Gospel compels us to share truth in love and to point people to the hope of Jesus, even when facing difficult life situations. There are several ways we share the hope of Jesus. One way is through serving our community locally, whether by providing food or helping provide homes for families. We believe the Love of Christ is intended for everyone and that each person possess inherent worth given by God. Because God made all mankind in his image, we believe God's abundant love and grace is available to all.

Campaigns and Causes

At Oak Hills Church, we believe all life is sacred and made in the image of God. Our Oak Hills vision is to courageously engage culture with the hope of Jesus where we live, work, learn and plan. One way we courageously engage our culture today is by standing up for the valuing of every human life. The Gospel compels us to share truth in love and to point people to the hope of Jesus, especially when facing difficult choices or fear of the unknown. We also know that God's abundant love and grace is available to all. The resources below can help equip you if you or someone you know is facing an unplanned pregnancy or carrying the burden of an abortion in their past.

PRAYER & ADVOCACY
We can pray for those in our city and nation facing unexpected pregnancy to make God and life-honoring choices. Be a voice for the voiceless and advocate for the sanctity of life. Join with others in praying and advocating for life in our city through the 40 Days of Life organization. 40 Days for Life is an internationally coordinated 40-day campaign that aims to end abortion locally through prayer and fasting, community outreach, and a peaceful all-day vigil in front of abortion businesses.
Oak Hills Church Family to Family Ministry (“FFM”) is committed to sharing the hope of Jesus Christ and making disciples through authentic relationships. The FFM believes that rational discipleship is the best approach for people and families to discover their true identities in Christ and begin following Jesus moment by moment.

The FFM is an outreach to vulnerable families in our community who are suffering from situational or generational poverty and are committed to working to improve their lives. We walk with them in their journey of restoration through a partnership with Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries (“HCDBM”).

HCDBM is located in Boerne. Their partnerships connect with over 15 churches and serve over 3,000 impoverished families across 8 counties in the Texas Hill Country and Northern Bexar County. Their mission is to help unite and equip the Body of Christ with food, resources and training necessary to transform our communities and the lives of those in poverty through the love and saving grace of Jesus Christ.

There are several ways for you and your family to plug in and serve the FFM.

General Volunteer - Assist with the Thursday afternoon bi-weekly blessings (food /drinks).

Logistics Volunteer - Help with the loading and unloading of the blessings provided by HCDBM.

Family Partner - Bi-weekly phone contact with specific families or individuals in the ministry who have not been “matched” with a Mentor.

Mentor - Mentor with a specific family/individual in the ministry to help them mend broken relationships and provide support (non-monetary) in their efforts to alleviate their poverty status. You will walk through life with them and begin your journey assisted through training and support from both the FFM and HCDBM. This role is very rewarding and beneficial to both you and the family/individual you are “matched” with.

If you are interested in learning more about the FFM in general or ways you might serve, please contact Marian Sultenfuss, FMM Volunteer Coordinator at 210.954.5545 or at msulte1972@aol.com. We look forward to the opportunity of discussing with you how you can be in part the hands and feet of Christ.

Get Food
Fresh food for all! Anyone facing food-insecurity may pick-up food boxes. Get food for any family in need. You do not need to be an Oak Hills Church member or attendee. To get food, you simply need to pre-register for the distribution.

Make Hygiene Kits
Many families facing financial challenges go without personal care items. These small items can make a big difference. We'll be distributing kits to families attending our Fresh Food Distribution. You can help! Simply take a gallon size Ziplock bag, gather new (unused) travel size toiletry items (bar of soap, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, razor, comb, etc.) and write an encouraging note.

Volunteer
Use your gifts to bless and serve local families! Volunteers will welcome families and distribute food boxes to up to 400 families in the Oak Hills Church and San Antonio community. Adults, middle school, and high school students are invited to serve. Middle school students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. High school students can volunteer without a parent/guardian present. Both middle and high school students must have a signed parental waiver (to be provided). We request that all volunteers bring your own mask (we will also have some available). We will provide lunch and water, along with a t-shirt for each volunteer. A volunteer waiver will also be provided for your review and signature. Learn more and sign up to serve at our next Fresh Food Distro HERE.

The San Antonio Food Bank provides food through private and public donations, by individuals and corporate sponsors. Learn more about their programs HERE.

Did you know that one of our city’s greatest needs is in the area of affordable housing? An estimated 153,672 families in San Antonio have an unmet housing need, including 82,000 children living in overcrowded housing. At Oak Hills Church, we’ve decided to do something about it. We are partnering with Habitat for Humanity to share the hope of Jesus by providing long-term housing solutions to families in need. Serve with us!

GIVE
Support affordable housing by giving to fund this home and future Oak Hills Church sponsored homes. Each new home costs $60,000. 100% of your gifts will go towards construction costs. Through our "Square Foot Campaign," you can sponsor a square foot or more. One square foot costs $60. With 1,000 sponsorships, we can complete one new home! Click HERE to give now! (Enter your dollar amount, select recurring or one time gift, select fund: Habitat for Humanity).

BUILD
Serve alongside the home-buyer to help build their new home. You can build one time, or multiple weekends, you do not have to commit to every weekend. Each service day, approximately 30 construction volunteers will work under the direction of Habitat’s building coordinator to build this home. Anyone age 14 and above is eligible to work on the construction site, and you don’t need any special skills, just a willingness to serve. Click HERE to volunteer to build!

FEED
Support the construction efforts each week by providing lunch. Lunch teams purchase or make lunches for all the volunteers, staff, and home-buyers working on their sponsored home, including all the paper products, serving utensils, ice, drinks, and desserts. Tackle it yourself or recruit your family, small group, friends, or neighbors to join in. All ages can help serve lunch! Click HERE to sign up to provide lunch.

PRAY
We invite you to pray for the project. Click HERE to download and print the weekly prayer guide to join us in covering the project in prayer. You can also pray for the specific family who will receive their new home. They are looking forward to starting on their house and learning how to take care of it inside and out through all of the Home Owner Readiness Classes.
